Volunteer Opportunity with the Special Olympics
Note from the East Tennessee Special Olympics Coordinator...
I'm looking for at least 2 people to help referee the Special Olympics Regional Flag Football event on Sept. 11 at Mayor Bob Leonard Park in Farragut. We have 9 high school and adult teams registered to participate. The entire event will be from 10:00 am - approximately 3:00 pm. If someone is only available in the morning or afternoon we could use you, but I am particularly looking for assistance in the afternoon. Since flag football is a new sport for Special Olympics, the morning will be conducted as scrimmages with the emphasis on training rather than competition. In the afternoon, teams will be divisioned and play actual games.
We have a lead referee for each field but the expected assistance has not materialized. Even if you are not a referee but have played flag football, understand the general rules, and are willing to help out, I'd like to hear from you. If you haven't played flag football but understand football, can move up and down the field with the play, and are interested I'll send you the rules so you can look them over and decide if you can help.
Special Olympics plays 5 on 5 and uses a 40 x 25 yd. field, plus the end zones.
If you can help, please let me know. Even if you can't volunteer for the event, come out and support the athletes on September 11.
